Title: The Gifts of Helps, Mercy, and Service - What’s the Difference?

Scripture:  1 Cor. 12:28; Ro. 12:8;; Ro, 12:6-8

While we have only scratched the surface on the topic of spiritual gifts, I hope this short series has been helpful at least to some of you in discerning your God-given spiritual gift. I selected the gift topics that seemed most common among the laity (the ordinary church members as opposed to the clergy and leadership). However, while I prepared the messages on the gifts of Helps, Mercy, and Service, I was struck by the similarities among them. I can see how there might be some confusion as to the differences. A little more digging, however, cleared things up.

Here is an abbreviated distinction as to the differences among the three gifts as discussed by Andrew K. Pulp from BuildingChurch.com. I will leave you a link to my source should you desire to dig a little deeper for a more clear and thorough understanding. Mr. Pulp says:

”The gifts of Helps, Mercy, and Service are often confused.

Helps focuses on Christian works and freeing others to accomplish their God-given ministries.

Mercy focuses on people in distress and reflects God’s love and compassion.

Service focuses on accomplishing little tasks that may otherwise go undone in order to move the greater goal of the ministry or church toward completion.”

That seems rather clear cut, however, should you still be a little confused on the issue, here is the website link I promised you for further research and study:

Remember, If you are a Believer, God has a spiritual gift with your name on it. Just keep asking, seeking, and knocking. (Mt. 7:7)

Be ready for the Rapture!
